Scrap prices static in Far Eastern market

Far Eastern consumers of steel scrap have filled stocks in advance and are now very scrupulous in choosing a seller. Exporters, in turn, are not cutting offers further and insist on current levels. Nominal prices for Japanese material still range within JPY 30,000-30,500/t ($316-321/t; $1 = JPY 95.04), just like in contracts registered last week. Some steelmakers hope prices will move down, but exporters have managed to avoid price cuts so far.
