THE record sales of Californian almonds faltered slightly last month when shipments fell by 5% to 77.04 million Ibs compared with 81..04 million Ibs in January 2003, according to the latest Almond Industry Position (AIP) Report. However, prices for the popularly traded BSlJSs (blanchable standard unsized with maximum 5% serious damage) remain stable. "Market prices have not changed much since the last AIP Report figures were published," said one leading US source. "It seems that there may have been more caution shoun by buyers of the 2004 crop as they wait to see what the future trend will be on 2003 crop shipments and on this year's crop prospects."
