New Weather and Climate Services in Haiti

Located in the Northern Hemisphere, 80% of the population of Haiti lives below the poverty line on less than two dollars a day, and 54% of the population lives in extreme poverty on less than one dollar a day. The total population is estimated at morethan nine million, with more than 70% in rural areas. Two thirds of Haitians depend on the agricultural sector, which is particularly sensitive to climatic hazards, especially as there is strong dependence on rain fed agriculture and the irrigated landarea is very small (903 km~2).
