GERMAN purchases of canned fruits this year remain more or less the same as this time last year, thanks to a largely stagnant market Problems experienced in various Far East regions reduced the availability of canned pineapples: Germany bought 30 890tonnes compared with 32 730 tonnes in January-March 2006. A steady decrease in shipments from drought ridden Indonesia in recent years down 30% to 6 750 tonnes this quarter - benefited Thailand, which sent around 5 000 tonnes more at 15 700 tonnes. The Philippines cut its shipments down to 780 tonnes from 1 300 tonnes previously.
