THE World Canned Deciduous Fruit Conference (WCDF) member nations held an interim meeting at the ANUGA trade fair on 13 October, at which the full extent of global canned peach stocks was made clear. The situation as regards peach puree stocks is muchmore opaque, partly because some countries reported that they had not yet fully estimated their tonnage. Argentina processed 151 000 tonnes of fruit last season, of which 81000 tonnes went for canning and the rest for puree. Raw material prices were just under US0.17 dollar per kg for canning fruit and seven to eight US cents/kg for fruit destined for puree. Argentina produced 4.1 million cartons (24/A2: the standard size used by all reporting countries). Of this, 76% was for the domestic domestic market and 24% for export. Argentina also produced 20 400 tonnes of puree.
