THE exact size of China's AJC inventory, as the new season opens, remains uncertain. Joyce Ciu, sales and marketing manager at Shaanxi Haisheng, told delegates at the recent FOOD-NEWS World Juice 200ft conference that she believed the uncontracted carry-over was "in the region of 100 000 tonnes, but added that she was not entirely certain. China, she said, is expecting an apple crop that will be 10-20% -down on last year's, due to 2009 being an alternate bearing year. The Chinese agriculture ministry predicts just 25.0 million tonnes, which, if accurate, is a serious fall.
