Serbian IQF raspberry prices climb as stocks diminish fast

SERBIA is anticipating a large raspberry crop of around 65 000 tonnes in 2009, an increase of 10 000 tonnes compared with last year's crop. Harvesting will commence in mid-June and it is estimated to take approximately six weeks to harvest, prepare and process the raspberries, and then exports will begin late July-August. Meanwhile, a source from Serbia reported there to be around 6 000 tonnes of IQF raspberries left until June: not enough to fulfil European demand as stocks are diminishing fast, although another source from the country contradicted any possible shortages and implied that there are enough stocks in coldstores.
