EUROPEAN trade in frozen onions continues to be marked by scarce supplies and brisk demand, traders told FOODNEWS last week. The supply pipeline has been squeezed further as savvy farmers are reluctant to sell large volumes of raw material to processors; prices for IQF onions are increasing almost every week and growers are determined to hold the whip hand in price negotiations for as long as possible. Latest quotes for Polish IQF onion slices/ dices are over GBP600 per tonne, delivered UK. Offeringa general overview of the market, a UK trade source said: "We think these prices for IQF onions will still increase. Demand is much bigger than supply.
