Volatile cashew market unsettled by reports of lacklustre harvests

THERE was good activity in the cashew market in week 43. Prices for the main traded grades moved up 3-4%. Business was done for the popular W240 grade from USDE3.60-3.75 per lb, W320s from USD3.30-3.40/lb and W450s from USD3.15-3.25/lb, all fob (and there were unconfirmed reports of business a few cents higher as well). Importers in almost all markets were buying, mainly for November/December and some volume for shipments up to March/ April 2011. Indian domestic demand was steady but there has not yet been a significant increase in prices for brokens.
