EU Commissioner Touts LNG for Ships, Trucks; EV Recharging for Cars

European Commission Vice President Siim Kallas announced June 25 in a speech to the Sustainable Energy Week conference in Brussels that most ships plying European waters at least theoretically could be fueled by liquefied natural gas (LNG) rather than conventional oil-based bunker fuels in about 20 years. “Natural gas is probably the only globally available fuel that reasonably allows ships and waterborne transport to meet their emissions targets,” Kallas said.
