Objective.-Study of the impact of linezolid on intestinal microbiota.Methods.-They are based on literature search and personal experience.Results.-Linezolid is a synthetic antibiotic,the first available agent in a new class of antibiotic called the oxazolidinones,whose particular mechanism of action consists in inhibiting the initiation of protein synthesis.Its spectrum of in vitro and in vivo activity includes staphylococci,streptococci,enterococci,corynebacteria and some anaerobic bacteria(Peptostreptococcus,Clostridium,and Fusobacterium).Resistance is linked with changes in the domain V of 23S rRNA in the site of oxazolidinones fixation,the most frequent was(G out of U)in position 2576(numbering Escherichia coli).The microbiota intestinal is a complex ecosystem.Administration of antibiotics causes disturbances in the ecological balance between the host and the normal flora.In literature,one study has shown that the administration of oral linezolid in healthy volunteers alters the anaerobic dominant flora,reduces the barrier effect and facilitates the implantation of exogenous strains.We showed that dynamics of emergence of linezolid resistance in Enterococcus faecalis depends on the dose administered.Conclusions.-Further studies are needed to assess the impact on the intestinal microbiota in patients treated with linezolid.
