摘要

As you may have noticed from the photo, Sam Gournay is no longer the editor of this journal. He has moved onto pastures new, and I hope to follow in his footsteps of bringing you excellent pieces of research and clinical articles. This issue is again testimony to the excellent work carried out by mental health nurses and students. This month we feature a second article on the treatment of insomnia by Julie I Swann, and a literature review by Harriet Stevens on the perception of service users and their treatment of cognitive behaviour therapy for psychosis. Following on from a discussion that opened the previous issue of the journal, Jeff Fernandez continues his exploration of potential new models for service delivery and the evolving roles of nurses, stating that mental health nurses need to embrace their potential as agents of change. The article also includes a commentary from British Journal of Mental Health Nursing editorial board member Barrie Green, continuing these same themes of what can be done to transform the delivery of care. Austerity is mentioned, and that cuts have taken place throughout the NHS-something that looks like it will be ongoing as NHS Providers has reported that 80% of bosses of NHS trusts in England fear they will have too little money this year to provide timely, high-quality care to the growing numbers of people seeking mental health support (Campbell, 2017). Peter Nolan also discusses the affects austerity had on patients during the First World War, and describes how the York Retreat and the man behind it, William Tuke, helped to shape mental health care. Putting the patients first was of utmost importance to him, which is something that is still advocated, although not always adhered to. The Care Quality Commission (2017) have released a report revealing that too many patients are locked into rehabilitation wards that are situated in areas that are far away from their homes.
