摘要

What if you measured the performance of your library or information center, and nobody in senior management paid any attention to your results? A few years ago, two students at Harvard Business School interviewed several people who donate significantsums of money—collectively, about $50 million per year—to charity. These donors all worked in the finance and investment fields and thus were familiar with, and advocates of, performance measurement. The students reasoned that because their subjects were passionate about gathering data and using it to make objective business decisions, they would welcome such information about the charities they supported.
