Key View: The Asian medical device market will continue to outperform globally, recording high single-digit growth in both weighted local currency and US dollar terms. The Covid-19 pandemic will pose significant downside risks to the region's economic outlook, creating headwinds for medical device market growth, albeit with upside risks for some medical devices, including selected consumables and therapeutic respiration apparatus. Emerging Asia will grow at nearly twice the rate of Developed Asia, which will be constrained by cost-containment measures. Increased patient volumes due to ageing demographics, the rising incidence of chronic diseases and expanding healthcare systems, along with investment in new technology, will be the primary growth drivers. Tougher regulation and a hardened stance on reimbursement, together with increased market competition, will be constraining factors.
