Peruvian steelmaker Aceros Arequipa ready to launch new melt shop

S?o Paulo—Peruvian longs steelmaker Aceros Arequipa is set to launch its new 1.25 million mt/year melt shop at its Pisco complex in July, after concluding installation and tests of a new electric arc furnace and a six-strand billet caster. Following an investment of $220 million, the new mill will bring the company's total steelmaking capacity to 2 million mt/year, but for now the 850,000 mt/year old mill "will be revamped to operate in the future," the company spokesperson told S&P Global Platts, without specifying the timeframe.
