Severstal to step up in-house energy production to curtail CO2 emissions

London—Russian miner and steelmaker Severstal is targeting 95% energy self-sufficiency by 2023 in order to achieve a 3% cut in greenhouse gas emissions, the company said April 1. The company's energy efficiency strategy at its flagship Cherepovets Iron and Steel Works (CherMK) in northwest Russia will contribute over 50% toward that emissions goal.
