Japan's Nippon Steel starts new high-strength steel plate line at Chiba

Singapore—Japan’s Nippon Steel began commercial operations of its 6th continuous hot-dip galvanizing line, or CGL, at its East Japan Works in Chiba on Jan. 16, the steelmaker said Jan. 18, to meet demand from the automotive sector. The new line has a production capacity of up to 33,000 mt/month, Nippon Steel said, capable of manufacturing 1.5 GPa (Gigapascal) class ultra-high-tensile steel plate, meaning the plate will not break until a force of 150 kg per 1 mm square is applied.
