Japan's Nippon Steel plans new EAF startup at Hirohata H1 2022

Singapore—Japan’s Nippon Steel plans to start operating a new electric arc furnace at Hirohata in the first half of 2022, the country’s leading integrated steelmaker said March 30. The new EAF will be operated by the steelmaker's Setouchi Works, which will absorb the Hirohata Works in April 2020, following plans to streamline Nippon Steel's domestic operations. This forms part of the company’s goal to become carbon neutral by 2050, it said.
