Turkey's pig iron imports strong, prices soften

Bursa—Turkey's imports of pig iron in the first 11 months of 2020 remained strong at 1.06 million mt, up by 1% year on year, in line with an increase in Turkish steel output during the period, according to the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) data. Crude steel production in Turkey in January-November 2020 exceeded last year's performance, despite the pandemic hitting demand in the second quarter, totaling 32.4 million mt, up 4.9% year on year. Turkey's imports of pig iron from its traditionally largest supplier, Russia, declined in the period, while imports from Ukraine increased substantially.
