摘要

Urban trees are championed as a cost-effective means of addressing the impacts of climate change, yet Sheffield City Council has authorised the removal of several thousand of them. Campaigners are still'trying to understand why.In 2006 the Council corpmissioned a survey of the city'sstockof around 36,000 street trees. The 'Elliott Report' found 10,000 warranted remedial action, although only 1,000 required outright felling. It recorded 74% of them as mature - unsurprising considering that many were planted in the 1800s.
