Sometimes referred to as jewels of the landscape, flowering crab apples (Malus spp.) can provide prolific spring blossom of a charm matched only by that of flowering cherries. The white, cup-shapedflowers burst into vitality from pink or red buds in May and June. Some are notably fragrant, such as M. Hupehensis Award of Garden Merit (AGM) andM. ioensis, and while most are five-petalled and single, there are semi-double and double-flowered ones.
