September shipments soft, prices strengthen

Using the S&P Global Platts cFlow vessel tracking tool, Platts has assessed the volume of iron ore shipped from five of the major miners (Rio Tinto, BHP, Vale, FMG and Roy Hill) on a month by month basis. Vessel tracking data should be used as an indication only and may not capture all vessel movements and volumes. The cFlow data shows that total iron ore exports from the major miners in September reached 98.68 million mt, down 0.74% month on month. When compared with the volumes shipped in September 2016 and 2017, this was up 5.4% and down 1.6% respectively.
