UPASI seeks restrictions on imports of Natural Rubber

The NR sector has been going through a phase of severe crisis due to the steep fall in prices for the last 8 years. The prices have been far below the cost of production and the main reason for this being unrestricted surge of cheap imports into the country from South East Asian origins. The spread of COVID-19 pandemic and the consequent lock down implemented turned out to be a double whammy as the NR production came to a grinding halt and the present situation is threatening the very existence of the sector.
