King quota: The Southeast Alaska troll Chinook salmon quota is holding steady this year.The state Department of Fish and Game on Feb. 8 announced a preseason troll treaty harvest allocation for 2021 of 148,500 Chinook, equaling the limit available in 2020.Chinook runs in the region remain distressed."Of the 11 Chinook salmon stocks with escapement goals in Southeast Alaska, five did not meet their goal in 2020," the department said. "In addition, four of the five Chinook salmon stocks for which the department develops formal forecasts have projected2021 runs less than what is needed to achieve minimum escapements: Chilkat, Taku, Stikine, and Unuk rivers. Management actions to reduce harvest of wild Chinook salmon are being implemented across all Southeast Alaska salmon fisheries, includingsport, commercial, personal use, and subsistence."
