OMV announces biomass co-processing project at Schwechat unit

Local oil major OMV will invest almost EUR200 million in the co-processing of liquid biomass (up to 160,000 tonnes of plant and waste oils annually) at its Schwechat refinery (200,000 barrels per day) until 2023. OMV targets a 60% share of natural gas and zero emission products in its portfolio. It projects a tenfold increase in renewable diesel demand by 2030. "The investment in the Schwechat site for processing biofuels contributes to the goal of reducing the carbon intensity of the OMV product portfolio - Scope 3 - by at least 6% versus 2010," the firm said.
