The metric system has an image problem in America. Like, really! Very, very many of us across the Fruited Plain perceive it is a foreign-based, sterile, stainless steel set of formulas pre-packaged in Erlenmeyer flasks and administered exclusively by Einstein-like, white-coated professors who shall demand that every time you use it, you shall have to convert your present units to it, and then back again, and your numbers will be forever weird. Does that sound like the nature of your fear? I would think it would be, since we live in a country that has turned the word “metric” almost into an obscenity while ignoring some overarching and practical facts.
