It is with huge sadness that I must report the passing of a great Japanese lithops enthusiast -Yasuhiko Shimada, shown here in Fig 35.126. To the best of my knowledge that was in November 2018.According to accounts in his book (Shimada, 2001), Yasuhiko Shimada was born in Kiryu in Gunma Prefecture, Japan in 1928. He acquired his first cactus in 1938 and in 1948 he bought up the surviving lithops from a Japanese nursery. Some years later, in 1997, he met the Coles and travelled 10,000 km around South Africa and Namibia. He also set up his 'Lithops Laboratory', which became known as Gunsenen Nursery, distributing lithops within Japan (only).
