摘要

Lecturer in Adult Nursing, University of Manchester, UKAt the start of the century, across Europe, an initiative was developed to look at ensuring palliative care provision across a range of care settings. Despite this intervention, it has been identified that there is still significant need to improve access to palliative care provision across Europe. The identification of differing levels of palliative care requirements and provision has been suggested, with specialist palliative care provision for those with the most complex care needs across a range of all services and care settings; and finally, a palliative care approach to ensure that this is integrated in care delivery across the board. In order to ensure effective and appropriate delivery of palliative care across these three levels, it is recognised that the educational needs of staff and also the skills, values and knowledge required by health professionals are central to care delivery.
