Tanzania expects LNG agreements this month

Tanzania hopes the construction of the delayed US $30 Bn LNG project will begin in 2023 with talks on the host government and production sharing agreements to be concluded this month.Construction is expected to take about five years,Energy Minister Medard Kalemani told lawmakers last week,citing the resumption of talks with Shell and Equinor.The project gained momentum after President Samia Suluhu Hassan took office in March and directed her administration to fast-track delayed investments.Plans for an LNG plant on Tanzania's southern coast have been under consideration since 2014.Talks,however,stalled for years under Hassan's predecessor John Magufuli and both operators had become convinced there was no progress in sight.
