Japanese steel exports go down in January

Although Japan exported less steel in January in both yearly and monthly compar ison, suppliers managed to strengthen their positions in the ASEAN region – the main sales outlet. Last month, the country’s total steel export went down 13.3% year-on-year and 3.2% month-on month, coming to 2.44 million t, according to the preliminary data from the Ministry of Finance. Given the Japanese mills’ focus on the local market, the shipments went down in all main sales outlets except for ASEAN.
