In the Midwest, there is a widespread joke that Iowa is actually an acronym: I Owe the World an Apology. Even in its own agricultural neighborhood, Iowa stands out as being exceptionally rural and unenticing. While it is true that large parts of Iowa are devoted to corn and soybean farming in endless monocultures, those who venture past the surface will find a rich paleontological heritage buried deep underground.
