Perth-Australia’s Woodside Petroleum posted an 8.7% year-on-year increase in production for the first quarter, a period which was punctuated with news that the Browse floating LNG project had been shelved and the Balnaves oil field off Western Australia unexpectedly closed. Woodside produced 23.7 million barrels of oil equivalent in the quarter ended March 31, up from 21.8 million boe in the corresponding period a year ago, primarily on the back of higher output at its 90%-held Pluto LNG project, the company said Wednesday.
