Sierra eyes first Mexico shallow-water well in mid-2017

Houston-Sierra Oil & Gas, the small start-up upstream explorer that won the first two blocks in Mexico’s series of bid rounds last year, plans to drill its first well in the shallow water offshore in mid-2017, its CEO said Tuesday. The company has not yet bidded its drilling rigs, but plans to procure the rig early next year and spud the well around May or so next year, Ivan Sandrea said in response to a Platts question at the FT Energy Infrastructure Conference. He does not think getting a rig will be a problem, given the oversupply of shallow-water drilling rigs in the world.
