Total slashes capex in battle on costs

Total on Thursday voiced confidence in its long-term outlook despite slashing capital expenditure for this year by $4 billion compared with last year and saying it planned no final investment decisions this year. The company recorded a 26% fall in adjusted profit in the fourth quarter to $2.1 billion, a much shallower decline than its main competitors.
