Houston—The US’ emerging San Juan Basin oil play appears to be an upstream operator’s dream: solid oil recoveries, relatively low costs and terrific economics in an area with a local refinery that avoids pricey transportation costs. And potential new pipeline and rail projects could provide still other takeaway options for the crude, although each has drawbacks, analysts say.
