CP, CN to retrofit, replace crude, diesel tank cars

Calgary—Canada’s two national railway companies has set in motion plans for either a major retrofit or an outright removal of their fleet of the contentious DOT-111 tank cars that serve as work horses for the transportation of crude oil from Western Canada to refineries in North America, a spokesman for one of the companies said Wednesday. Ed Greenberg, a spokesman for the Canadian Pacific Railway, said Wednesday, his company is “actively in the process” of implementing a plan to retrofit the older cars and has been moving forward on this plan as “quickly as possible.”
