Jakarta—The Indonesian government has decided to bite the bullet and raise subsidized fuel prices in an effort to rein in its ballooning subsidy burden, but the key decisions on when and by how much are yet to be made. The latest decision, announced April 30 by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, comes after other options including limiting subsidized fuel consumption and implementing dual pricing—one for public transport and motorcycles and another for private cars— were deemed impractical.
