Russia tweaks claim on Arctic expansion

Moscow-Russia has filed a new application to the United Nations to significantly expand its Arctic continental shelf up to the North Pole, the natural resources ministry said Wednesday, in a move that could secure Rus- sia’s access to greater hydrocarbons reserves in the Arctic Ocean. Russia requested to expand its area by 1.2 million square kilometers with estimated resources of 4.9 billion mt of oil equivalent, natural resources minister, Sergei Donskoy, said in a statement.
