Japan eyes building gas pipeline networks

Tokyo-Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry is looking into the possibility of building large-scale gas storage and pipeline networks to enhance the country's security of supply, in part because of lessons learned from the devastat- ing earthquake that hit the country in March last year, a ministry official said January 11. In the first round of the ministry's gas infrastructure council meeting on January 17, experts will discuss ways to build pipeline net- works to serve broad areas, the official said. Japan currently does not have large-scale pipeline systems that cover the country.
