Chinese petroleum group readies major coal-to-chemicals project

Shaanxi Yanchang Petroleum Group (Yan’an, China) will break ground in April 2018 on a coal–to–coal tar and syngas integration (CCSI) project, the first phase of the company's 47.4-billion renminbi ($7.2 billion) demonstration project of clean coal utilization at Yulin, China. The plant is expected to be operational in 2020. CCSI is a technology developed by Yanchang Petroleum to convert coals to coal tar and crude synthesis gas (syngas) through thermal decomposition and gasification in one reactor.
