The clinical implications of latex-fruit allergy

Pre-assessment of a child elicited a history of kiwi fruit allergy, and the father also commented on his kiwi and latex allergies. Although I recognised the link between latex and fruit allergy, I was unclear how significant it was. It was not possible to change the order of the list and the child was rescheduled pending an outpatient immunology review for latex testing. Skin prick and latex radioallergosorbent tests (RAST) were negative and surgery proceeded uneventfully.
