The inflatable boat hit the beach with a crunch, sprouting arms and legs as members of the tour group took part in an exercise known in the adventure cruise world as a "wet landing." Two by two, my parka-clad shipmates half-strode, half-stumbled up the cobble beach and surrendered their life jackets to the shore party. Then they stood there, simply stood there, their minds struggling to accept the fact that reality had finally caught up to one of their most cherished dreams.
