Applying Digital Imaging Technology to Historical Fieldwork and Museum Exhibitions - A View from Early Modern Japanese Studies

Scholars of early modern Japan have jet to make extensive use of digital image in their fieldwork despite the number of advantages such technologies offer over conventional cameras and microfilm. This tendency applies equally to the construction of museum exhibits that incorporate historical documents as part of their display. In the hopes of facilitating increased use of these technologies. It focuses on current uses of digital imaging technology in the field and at museums, and identifies issues specific to each. The report concludes with a discussion of digital imaging technology's potential ability to help resolve the challenges posed by fieldwork and museum exhibition.
