What's new in fungicides

During the 1980s, a lot of older pesticide chemistries were phased out due to concerns over potential toxicity and persistence of residues. The reason at the time was to eliminate materials that persisted in the environment. Relatively toxic materialswere still permitted, but their usage and labeling were restricted. This resulted in a lot of concern for the nursery community about the loss of familiar and trusted products and whether adequate replacements would be available. Development of pesticides for relatively small niche markets, such as the nursery industry, was feared to be too costly. Our pesticide options were drying up.
