Low pH Soils and their Management

摘要

I feel honoured and privileged to deliver the 14th Dr. Radha Raman Agarwal Memorial Lecture in the memory of great soil scientist, academician, administrator and policy maker blended with a generous human heart. By virtue of his sincerity, hard work,dedication to the cause of science, particularly to agricultural science - soil science he was acclaimed nationally and internationally. Even though I had no opportunity to see Dr. Agarwal, I could get his feelings through his book "Saline and Alkaline Soils of India" which I referred during my Ph. D. programme at Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi. He had his fascination for management of problematic soils - particularly the saline and alkaline soils of the country. Similarly, I had theopportunity of working with another set of problem soils of the country i.e. acid soils and their management. Hence, I thought that it will be tribute to him if I concentrate discussion something related for management of problem soils in the country.
