SHOUGANG JINGTANG COMPLETES 5,500 CU M BF CONSTRUCTION

Chinese Hebei-based steelmaker Shougang Jingtang United Iron & Steel (Shougang Jingtang) com- pleted construction of it’s 5,500 cu m blast furnace with commissioning scheduled for late March. Original deadline for this project was February, but completion was slightly delayed, the company’s official said on March 8. The designed capacity of the unit is 4.39 million t of pig iron per year. The BF was built under the capacity replacement programme. However, no facilities were shut down at Shougang Group. Eight smaller blast furnaces at seven other steel companies were announced to be eliminated in order to comply with government requirements (the new to eliminated capacity ratio of 1:1.25). Shougang Jingtang project also includes installation of two converters with a total capacity of 4 million tpy.
