Editorial: Rival textile and clothing producing countries profit from the US-China trade war

In the previous issue of Textile Outlook International,it was predicted that significant gains in share would be made in the US market by a number of textile and clothing exporting countries as a result of the USA’s imposition of”additional”tariffs on imports from China(see Trump Tariff Timeline on page 5).The tariffs are referred to as”additional”as they are levied on top of existing tariffs.Inevitably,the effect of an”additional”tariff on an imported item is to raise the landed cost of the item-unless the entity in China supplying it chooses to absorb the rise in cost by reducing its selling price by an equivalent amount.
