In domestic livestock, the pig shows the highest sensitivity to deoxynivalenol (DON)-induced intoxication characterized by kidney damage and also by frequent lesions in other parenchymatous organs such as the liver, spleen and thymus. The present study is aimed at evaluating the possible alterations of haemochromocytometric parameters, regulatory and effector immune cells and the possible morphostructural alterations in several tissues and organs in piglets directly intoxicated with low doses of deoxynivalenol (DON).
