Time for some decisions

Progress with developing major new infrastructure can be painfully slow. Often it is for very good reason; while the business case for a new project may stack up, local communities deserve to be consulted fully on plans to deliver a new transport scheme. Decisions take time and processes must be followed. But frustration is mounting with the Government's seeming lack of action over several flagship schemes. Lord Adonis, the National Infrastructure Commission's chairman, warned a few weeks ago that Britain faces gridlock on the roads, railways and in the skies unless decisions are taken soon to increase capacity and curb congestion.
