The rise of the auto sector in Mexico has been so swift that it has caught the country's steel industry napping. Billions of dollars are being spent by mills to catch up on some of the lost ground but they still face serious challenges ahead. Low labour costs have drawn many of the world's leading car makers to Mexico, which is seen as the gateway to both the North American and South American markets.
